Not too deep of a team but who needs deep when you have a lineup like the Yankees do. Solid all the way through from 1 to 9. Rodriguez and Teixeira are key in the middle and Cano is still improving. The addition of Russell Martin will help because Posada is getting old. They didn't add much in the off-season besides Martin and Andruw Jones who is getting old. Outside of the starting 9 there are tons of young players that the league hasn't seen much of. They lost Kearns, Berkman, Johnson, and Thames in the off-season
The weakness is apparent: starting pitching. Pettitte retired and left an already weak staff to become even weaker. Javier Vazquez and Dustin Moseley both left for free-agency and in turn the Yankees are down 3 potential starters. To fill those roles there is Ivan Nova and Sergio Mitre who has primarily been a a relief guy but he may be forced to start this season. The bullpen looks strong and of course Mariano Rivera is back and still strong. They signed Rafael Soriano to be the setup man and there is still Joba Chamberlain. Look for the bullpen to be a large help for the lack of strength in the starting rotation.
I look at the Yankees and see potential but they didn't do much to improve like Boston did. They will be strong and I think that they will make the playoffs but as the wild card: 2nd in the AL East.

To go along with what I've said I worked with Bryan McFarland to come up with we both thought would be ideal for this team. Here is the link to his thoughts:
